IMO UN resolution votes should be secret ballot. Each country can choose (and replace) their own representative, but once the choice is made, what the representative does is up to their own conscience. Less "pressuring" by great powers, more seeing how people really think.

More generally, perhaps a core theme of the next wave of democracy will be less "transparency and accountability" and more deliberate indirection and room for (pluralistic, aggregated) individual conscience. (this applies to DAOs too; eg. see NounsDAO https://aztec.network/blog/nounsdao-private-voting-final-update)

That could help in a perfect world but I bet those representatives arent thinking for themselves, are selected precisely to vote on what the state would, otherwise they wouldn’t be there And selection of another person by the public will never be accepted by UN I’m pretty sure Implies separate informed fair elections in every country and honest candidates

Do we have any mitigations for blind bribing, e.g. Lobbyist announces they will disburse $10M to a random subset of qualified voters iff proposal A passes. (Is this an ineffective strategy?)

Meanwhile, "green room" politics at the WTO have highlighted that lacking transparency left small and middle powers scrambling for trade concessions (see https://doi.org/10.1177/146499340900900408). A bloc of large members formed before the vote and decided *what* will be voted on - breaking anonymous votes.

i like this—if only we could protect the private space where moral individual conscience is formed, not just expressed. but the lunacy of tribal utilitarianism isn’t just in our systems—it’s in our collective heads. status, affiliation, and the perceived zero-sum-ness of the game—these distort reality and shape the expressive selves before they ever cast a vote. DAOs, democracies, the UN—none are immune. they need more than procedural indirection or safeguards. we need to cultivate individual conscience before the public expression of views (voting, posting) becomes nothing more than a pre-scripted performance. what good is a secrecy or anonymity if the expressive self has no individual conscience?

you also need a secure and audited environment (physical booth?) collusion and bribes will still happen - outcome based representatives are unelected - presidents/PMs have foreing affairs power
