EthCC this year has been doing a much better job of having short distances between side events. I remember last year having to uber-bike for 25 minutes to get to side events (multiple times!), this time everything is within a 2km radius.

I think the metro works super well for getting around, not sure why so many people take Ubers when it’s slower/more expensive.

Metro has high cognitive load. Need to find the station, find the map, buy a ticket, get on the train in the right direction, often switch trains at the right time, get off at the right time... All trivial in your own city once you're used to it, but in a new city it's tough.

And I think people are just... not aware of how slow cars are here?

Yes, bikes is fastest way to get around in Paris, no need to bother to look for public transport stations and can go routes cars can't.
