Moving from downtown SF to a suburb of SF does not count as "leaving San Francisco". You're still using the same airport. You're still able to have in-person meetings with the same people. Travel time from SF downtown to your new place is significantly less than between two opposite ends of Beijing or Seoul.

I think covid continues to be more dangerous than other diseases (eg. cold, flu), and it's wise to continue to be a step more careful with air hygiene than you were in the past. At least sometimes wear N95+ masks in crowded indoor places, make sure to have good ventilation, try not to spread viruses when sick, etc.

It's actually true that getting out of SF and spending lots of time in at least one other country (Canada and Europe don't count) gives you a better perspective on all kinds of important cultural, social, etc issues.

One interesting criterion to judge people by is: if US politics goes to hell, and in 2034 the US invades Mexico and starts bombing Tijuana, will they be (i) actively fighting against it, (ii) half-heartedly yelling on social media, (iii) quiet, or (iv) cheering it on? How do your social media influencer heroes rank?
