Beretta 92 (also Beretta 96 and Beretta 98 ) is a series of semi-automatic pistols designed and manufactured by Beretta ( Italy ). The Model 92 was developed in 1972 and continues to be produced in many different calibers. The United States military replaced the 1911A1 .45 ACP pistol with the Beretta 92F with the military specification M9 in 1985 .

The Beretta 92 series has indeed had a significant impact, especially with its adoption by the US military as the M9. It's interesting to see how this Italian-designed pistol replaced the iconic 1911A1 in the service.
