These days are long. I’m a medical student, third year, on my last rotation: surgery. I’m typically here from 5 AM to 5 PM (if not a longer day). I respect more and more what surgeons do every day. However, it’s sometimes hard to stomach some of the worst symptoms of a broken medical training system.

Hierarchical teams, frequent rudeness to other healthcare members, and forcing medical students to pre-round on patients, even when that means waking up a patient before the whole team rounds. (rounding is when we visit our patients, ask them how things are going, and exam them to form a plan of care)
