The Eye of the Sahara is a giant geological formation with a diameter of 50 km, located in the Mauritanian part of the Sahara Desert.

Initially, geologists believed that the Eye of the Sahara, also known as the Richat Structure, was a massive impact crater, but after research conducted in 2014, scientists concluded that such formations appeared as a result of erosion.

In other words, the Earth's platform in this area repeatedly rose and fell, constantly weathering, which led to the creation of this remarkable layered formation.

And today is the birthday of the person who played a major role in bringing this shot to life!

Before us, no team had ever managed to capture the Eye of the Sahara in its entirety, and all the images available on the internet were just zoomed-in satellite photos.

To create a video of the Eye of the Sahara showing its full diameter, we needed a bunch of permits and approvals, countless hours of negotiations, and a ton of Nastya's patience!
