I’m ready for the β€œfree mint” meta to be over. If folks really want to collect your work then they should pay the price to own it. If they don’t collect it, then so be it. Ultimately, those who really value your work won’t mind paying for it anyways.

Agree with you on paying full price, but I do see the free mint or OE as like stickers, posters, postcards or even flyers IRL. Just something cheaper for people to get interested in the work or even just to take home. Not every collector is gonna be willing to pay full price all the time. Then collectors will become selective. I don’t always have money to buy art full price and appreciate cheaper option to buy something affordable.

hard to disagree... if it wasn't for "free" mints (which are never free when they come with platform fees) many wouldn't ever got to collect XCOPY and many others. The poster idea, or memento, is being explored by museums and galleries such as the MoMa. And those are brilliant!

Absolutely! I think it is fantastic that museums and galleries are exploring it. That should legitimise NFTs and give a strong case study. Free mints (yeah not free I know🀣) could be the gateway for someone being a serious art collector in the future or enter into NFT space
