Have to read Russian classics in the original. Just started to build out my collection of classics with Преступление и наказание by Достоевский.

No, it's my mother tongue, but I don't use it that often, so it's slowly slipping away 🙂

Ah gotcha, yes, it slips away even when you move abroad at an older age. Depends on how much you are actually using it. Mine will never fully disappear but it’s getting increasingly harder to express myself

Even more so when you move abroad as a teenager. It's so bizarre though, isn't it? The reduced ability to express yourself in your mother tongue, the increasingly limited vocabulary, the inability to discuss certain subjects which you learned entirely in a different language, etc. The list goes on.

I think to actually keep it you need to actively and consistently be part pf the community. This is not my case, which is slightly odd for an adult immigrant. It was entirely my choice though.

Yeah, same here. Out of curiosity, what were your reasons for making that choice? Personally, I was trying to lose the accent and just fit in, culturally, I suppose.
