The Clouds That Glow Like Pearls High above the Earth, in the coldest part of the atmosphere, there are clouds that shine with brilliant colors—even after the sun has set. These are polar stratospheric clouds, also known as “mother-of-pearl” clouds. They form in the stratosphere at extremely low temperatures, reflecting sunlight long after dusk. Their surreal pink, blue, and gold hues make them one of the most breathtaking sights in the sky. Have you ever seen clouds that glow like pearls?
