Lately I’ve been thinking about how studying medicine slowly desensitizes you to death. What once felt unimaginable now sometimes passes with a note, a signature, and a quiet moment before moving on to the next task. And it scares me because I worry I’m losing part of my humanity. That piece of me that used to ache instinctively, now pauses to assess, manage, and cope. I know this is how we survive in this profession. But still… I miss the softness. The instinct to feel before I think. Lost a patient today and I got scared when my heart didn’t feel heavy or tight.
