does speed reading *actually* work? I’ve tried it in earnest a handful of times and either my cpu isn’t powerful enough or I’m doing it wrong. seems ripe for psyop with its claim to superhuman benefit and ability to always say “you just need to practice more” etc. but, is it real?

Some people read faster than others, of this I'm certain. My wife reads so fast it boggles my mind, and I've tested her comprehension because I couldn't believe it. My friend droqen reads extremely fast as well. I've never been able to, my mind wanders. If people read at different speeds it's reasonable to hypothesis that a person could train themselves to read faster. In fact, you _are_ a speed reader compared to when you were in elementary school.

True. One of the things they teach you write away is to quiet your inner voice when you read. Maybe that's why I'm so slow even before trying speed reading. My success rate for books is much higher with audio and a long walk.
