Mercedes-Benz was founded by Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. The brand was established following Benz's first petrol-powered car in 1886 and Daimler's engine-fitted stagecoach in the same year. Emil Jellinek, who named a model after his daughter Mercedes in 1901, also played a key role.
