The Pyramid of Cheops The only one of all the ancient buildings that has survived to this day. And it was also the very first to appear on the planet: the pyramid was built back in 2560 BC in the suburbs of the capital of Egypt. This is the largest pyramid in the country: it reaches a height of 147 meters and covers an area of more than seven football fields. The pyramid was erected in just 20 years by order of Pharaoh Cheops. They built from granite and limestone without any mechanisms or tools: they raised stone blocks of the same size to a great height. It is believed that all the work was done using platforms made of beams or ropes. In total, at least 100,000 people worked on the project.
