In this Instagram post, the writer, photographer, and educator Jorg Colberg offers a critique of the world of photobook awards (a critique that I believe can easily extend to the entire world of photography awards) and how this system commodifies individual photographers' work to simply create more revenue opportunities for certain institutions, perhaps? I'd like to hear what other photographers think about this. https://www.instagram.com/p/C8MoV9oRXbi/?img_index=1

I feel the same. It can be an industrial complex. “Innovation” is praised when it fits the trends. True innovation is controversial –and from institutions especially– criticized. Picasso, Monet, Duchamp, even digital photography. Ok art makes you go “Wow… huh?” Great art makes you go “huh? Wow!”
