Water can boil and freeze at the same time. This phenomenon, called the triple point, occurs when the temperature and pressure are just right for the three phases (gas, liquid, and solid) of a substance to coexist. Wombat poop is cube-shaped. This helps prevent it from rolling away, allowing wombats to mark their territory more effectively. There’s a species of jellyfish that is biologically immortal. Turritopsis dohrnii can revert its cells to an earlier stage of life, potentially allowing it to live indefinitely.

Bananas are berries, but strawberries aren’t. Botanically, a berry must have seeds and pulp inside and develop from a single ovary of a flower. Bananas fit this definition, but strawberries do not. Octopuses have three hearts. Two pump blood to the gills, and one pumps it to the rest of the body. When an octopus swims, the heart that delivers blood to the body actually stops beating. Honey never spoils. Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. Sharks existed before trees. Sharks have been around for about 400 million years, while trees evolved roughly 350 million years ago.
