One spoonful of paste-fed animal fat can contain more than 1000 IU of vitamin D. Our ancestors consumed much more than this daily, obviously: most of the diet was of animal origin and high in fat. Meanwhile, nowadays people don't sunbathe and even if they don't use vegetable oils, they use options that don't bring this benefit in terms of vitamin D (coconut oil, butter and lard, which can be good, but there aren't as many benefits as good fat from a grass-fed ruminant).
