Got Arch installed and working on an old laptop. Definitely a challenge: the official instructions left me completely lost re how to install grub. But GPT handholding helped, and I'm impressed and found the experience surprisingly educational!

Maybe you can try install Qubes OS too.. It took me 3 months to make it work on an old Macbook Air 2015 because of the broadcom 4360 wifi chip . 😀 But in the end, Qubes OS turns out pretty good..
