‘Dance Moi’ — A heartburning work of satirical genus.
‘Dance Moi’ documents 69 conceptual, controversial, and subversive artists and artworks in a continuous text string bound by a wordsearch-like grid — each punctuated by a gigantic procedurally placed banana.
Echoing Robert Rauschenberg’s ‘Erased de Kooning Drawing’ (1953) — an exploration of creation, destruction, and originality — the bananas in ‘Dance Moi’ systematically compound to obscure and deface the documented names and works, culminating in an almost blank canvas that visually voids much of the underlying value. The obscured names tease contemporary artists, while the blankness invites a new generation to continue the tradition of subverting cultural conventions.
