A criticism of Alessandro Michele’s first couture collection for Valentino was that it edged too far toward costume. Personally I found the details stunning and loved the modern interpretations of period clothing

This quote from Ian McEwan’s novel β€œSaturday” struck me. Impactful writing. Is it a deft observation of humanity’s baser instincts, a true condition of our time, or an overly cynical assessment of modern society?

I think it has to be or what’s the point? And it’s probably up to each individual to capture, or at least recognize, that beauty

Looking forward to the first FarCon in Europe, which will maybe help expand the cabal. NYC is a great choice for this year. Wish I could make it

Another day, another (woman) digital art pioneer you've never heard of. Charlotte Johanneson (SE) trained as a weaver but started using an Apple II in 1978, transitioning into a practice of creating plotter art and hybrid / digital works. https://hollybushgardens.co.uk/artists/charlotte-johannesson/

Writing is integral to my livelihood. I started out years ago as an editor in the publishing industry, polishing texts for higher education authors and helping direct book organization and theme. Currently, I work as a content manager for a digital art gallery, which involves short-form writing for social media, but also longer-form content like newsletters. Words are important to me. I enjoy crafting text and thinking about the kind of messaging that makes sense for an audience. I lament that we're collectively suffering from TLDR syndrome and are losing the ability to read deeply and focus on the craft of purposefully arranged words. We are trained to skip past long segments of text, especially those without supporting images. People respond mostly to quick, impactful soundbites. What characterizes successful writing is shifting rapidly in the attention economy. We need to ask ourselves what we expect from writing, as well as from writers, and learn to reward with discretion.
