Who is Junior Ngoma, aka @fingacode?

A “multidisciplinary creative,” Junior Ngoma has made a name for himself in the rapidly evolving world of digital art through years of experimenting with creative technologies and coding.

Technologically curious from an early age, Junior has become a master of self-teaching, exploring various platforms and experimenting with techniques of digital design.

3/ Initially, he dabbled on social media platforms like MySpace and Bebo making small visual elements like banners, layouts, and logos for friends.

4/ Eventually, Junior began to experiment with coding small web pages and landed a job at a web agency as a web developer. From there, @fingacode says “I took more interest in interactive technology.”

5/ Junior, a music lover, continued his self education alongside his formal education by building landing pages for his musically talented friends.

He also created a range of visual merchandise like tape covers and posters.

6/ @fingacode pursued formal training in graphic design in secondary school and college, but found the curriculum parameters extremely limiting.

He took greater satisfaction in other creative outlets instead and enjoyed managing his growing business.

7/ By the time @fingacode reached college graduation, he admits “he was checked out” since his solo endeavors had helped steer him down an increasingly interesting career path—one in which he could push the boundaries of his technical and creative prowess in his own way.

8/ During covid, @fingacode took advantage of the lockdowns to make online connections and learn about how other artists were using NFTs as a way to bolster their visibility and artistic reach.

9/ Junior’s generative collections took on a range of interesting visual patterns, elements and inspirations. Ever the explorer, @fingacode thrived in the unexpected nature of the process and curated results that appealed to his aesthetic sensibility.

10/ Sometimes, his process was more planned, including for one particularly poetic collection called “nth culture” that pays tribute to @fingacode's cultural heritage:

13/ For JAZZ, Junior pushed his coding skills further into the realm of motion to arrive at spontaneous interactions of shapes and color, which he edited as it evolved to suit his unique aesthetic.

The collection will even include a CPG color palette.

14/ Fully enjoying the spontaneity of the process, @fingacode says “as an output would come out, I'll then tweak it to do another thing… That's very reminiscent of jazz to me in the sense that there are these pockets where shapes are just kind of freestyling.”
