ingenuity of original square card reader underrated imo. the reader tunneled the card number through the mic input. It's recovered in software by analyzing the waveform. 100% under appreciated I sometimes miss the audio jack. In practical terms, usb-c is superior. Maybe nostalgia plays a role

ya some nostalgia. I like the hack through audio jack cause I don’t immediately associate it with something that transmits data in the same way a usb device does. Kinda analog.
