Has music always been released on Fridays? Or did Spotify change the game with New Music Friday?

nope it had been tuesday’s since the early 90s. changed ~10 years ago

iirc it was initially tuesday because of physical shipments/in-store shopping and the weekly sales charts

*in the US at least

the physical -> digital transition more broadly (both steaming + purchasing) but yeah

now it’s normalized worldwide too. before it was not. there were like 3 different “release days” depending on your country lol
