weekend essay reading recommendation from Colson Whithead, November 2001, a lifetime ago and also a profound time for NYC

this essay (and that opening sentence above) helped me understand myself  - 3rd generation of NYCer, whose family has been here continuously for 120 years - as much as anything ive ever read

moreso, its a story of place, and the meaning of place, and the meaning of change, and embracing change even when we are .... scared by it
