Saying rituals don’t matter, is like saying the taste of food doesn’t matter because it all ends up in your stomach anyway - you are not wrong, but well, you’re missing the message Let me more specific by what I mean when I say ritual:

Most rituals don’t matter TO ME. I kinda hate a lot of them. But I understand the importance to others so I attend without complaint (including my wedding when I preferred eloping) TO ME these rituals are important like learning cursive. There is something beautiful in a handwritten note but imposing the practice takes up space for things more important to others I guess what I’m saying is I’m not calling for bans and cancellations but I would like to see us put value on new rituals. Maybe celebration each time a community manages to crowd source a home for a homeless person, for instance Rituals are fine. Tradition for tradition’s sake can get toxic fast

I feel this way about a lot of USA's rituals tbh, the thesis is disruption, and it wouldn't be the USA w/o freedom, which is freedom from the past as well I do not feel this way about a lot of other rituals where the place is closely tied to the history and culture
