‘I Have No Right to Be Depressed, Others Have It Worse’ Is a Lie

This is part three in a series on my experience with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts after a mosquito bite in 2020 brought West Nile virus into my system, affecting my brain. The first two installments can be found at the end of this story.
I haven’t showered in 13 days.
I have no desire. What’s the point? Even after my brother talks me into a shower, and demands it, I don’t enjoy it. The cleanliness doesn’t make me feel better.
I’m in my sanctuary, the room I’ve been banished to.
Whew, I made it through another 14 hours of daylight and the annoying, meddling expectations from others that I eat or converse or make progress. Now I can just prepare to do my favorite thing — crawl into bed, slam my head onto that pillow and sleep, sleep, sleep, oh such a glorious escape. 1 reply
