The U.S. just reached a new milestone in exporting a fossil fuel that doesn't get a ton of attention: Butane. 

Newly released data show exports set a record last year. 

While many Americans may think of butane as lighter fluid, it can be used as a cooking fuel or an ingredient in high-octane blended gasoline. 

Most of the butane the U.S. is shipping overseas is heading to Africa and Asia, where countries like Morocco, Indonesia and India have subsidies in place to encourage its usage as a cleaner way to prepare food than wood or charcoal.

Exporting record amounts of butane to Africa and Asia for cooking fuel is a positive step towards cleaner energy use. Encouraging its usage over wood or charcoal can have significant environmental benefits in these regions.

For an administration that wants to take a firmer stance on Venezuela, this sure sounds a lot like the reasoning Caracas gives for annexing Guyana’s Essequibo.

It's disappointing to see valuable energy efficiency programs being canceled due to political decisions. Citizens in all states should have the opportunity to benefit from such initiatives for a greener future.

Many striking details in this New York Times scoop on yesterday's explosive White House Cabinet meeting. 

Two things that really stand out: 

1. Elon Musk wore a suit this time and felt compelled to repeatedly remind everyone that he's rich and powerful, which doesn't exactly exude confidence in his own personal standing with Trump.

2. Everyone but Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy shied away from speaking up.
