Today in history King David Hotel Bombing (1946) On July 22, 1946, the Irgun, a Zionist paramilitary organization, bombed the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which housed the British administrative headquarters for Palestine. The attack, aimed at driving British forces out of Palestine, resulted in 91 deaths and many injuries. The bombing was one of the deadliest attacks during the period of Jewish insurgency in Mandatory Palestine. It intensified the conflict between Jewish paramilitary groups and British authorities, ultimately contributing to the British decision to withdraw from Palestine and the subsequent establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
