What sets Ethereum apart from other blockchains is its ethos of eliminating all potential centralized choke points. The goal is to build an unstoppable public good that can last for decades even centuries

All this chatter about “no fees from DA” 1. High fees / low fees/ no fees - make up your mind =) 2. Just look at the trend. DA fee market will likely activate in the next few months as more blob consumers come online

could help! one tradeoff is that if benefits are directed to the repo, funding is technically controlled by whoever legally hosts it (eg. if there is a company behind it) this is one of the reasons @protocolguild centers on individual membership

Airdrops to OSS repos seems like a Faustian bargain for maintainers (tho tbf they can’t even opt in/out of them) Claim $ now, and in the future, deal with low effort contributions and get less $

“Progressive” (committed to certain causes like social justice, environment) and “communist/socialist” (committed to certain mutualism/solidarity based political action) are usually conflated in the mainstream, but I think Ethereum is an existence proof that they’re different axes. The values of the ecosystem seem “progressive but centrist” I think it’s because the methods of the traditional left are prone to capture by the authoritarian left, and “capture resistance” is Value Zero for all of crypto. Ironically, I think Bitcoin is less culturally capture resistant despite being more technically censorship resistant. So it has, in fact, been captured by the authoritarian right to a greater degree. Full of Thieleans pretending libertarian-monarchism can be a non-oxymoronic thing. Also “capture resistant” is not the same thing as “libertarian” …

I like the direction of what you're saying. People underestimate that a lot of these values/systems can plug into each other (basically what you're saying regarding being on different axes). IMO the capture issue of communism is largely a naive approach due to lack of good technology: It calls for a collectively owned consensus gadget, and the naive way to solve this is through a central authority. Ethereum is a great example of having a collectively owned consensus gadget that does not rely on a central authority, *and* it plugs into a higher level capitalist contract layer. We're discovering new ways to experiment with these ideas without regressing into a totalitarian regime.

this was specifically referencing @protocolguild, accidentally sent without including that =) for your second question - the process by which $ streams are split up and sent to PG members (core devs) should take up as little bandwidth, contention, $ as possible. today we allocate according to neutral time-weighting

the Ethereum commons: a valuable and yet un-ownable whole this dynamic is weakened when entities own pieces/processes, so as to extract their value our role is to ensure the network + its stewardship remain unowned & uncaptured

+ all UX issues are valid + all UX issues will be solved in time both can be true. remember fee markets + congestion pre-1559? block times + no finality pre-merge? L2 fees pre-4844? + consider our past wins + recognize our current capabilities + commit to our shared challenges
