Namibia's first President, Sam Nujoma never took any loan from the World Bank or the IMF during his 15 years as President. He never appointed relatives to government positions. After leaving office, he did not interfere in Namibian politics and refused to endorse political candidates. His highest level of education was Standard 6. Soon after his wedding, at age 30, he went into exile and started an armed liberation movement for Namibia's independence. He would not return to Namibia for 30 years. He only owned two properties in Windhoek, one provided by the government and the other by a business couple as well as a farm provided by the Government. He never travelled abroad for medical treatment abroad and received all his healthcare in Namibia.
