You wrote about feeling like an "outsider" at HBS due to your lack of familiarity with the typical "On the Path" background. How did you cope with this feeling? It’s something i believe I, a lot of us relate with and I’m still wayy younger and have not experienced life as much as you have , I’m definitely gonna face scenarios like this sooner or later in life That’s why I’m so interested in this

So first thing is to recognize what you're feeling. Sounds simple, but often we (esp men bc we are taught to ignore or squash emotions) don't realize that we feel bad about something - we just unconsciously act in ways that express our bad feelings (rudeness, tired, etc) @christin has a lot of cool thoughts on how to recognize when your body is feeling something your mind doesn't realize yet Once you're aware, for me the consistently best remedy is finding other outsiders and talking to them about what you all are collectively going through. I personally found that community in other veterans as well as BIPOC + LGBTQ friendships (while we ofc had different life experiences the feeling of being on the 'outside' was universal). btw i wouldn't stress too hard tho bc this line of thinking is a little bit of "pre-optimizing" which is usually not a good use of your time. I wrote about it here 🫡 https://www.wysr.xyz/p/pre-optimizing-your-life Most of the time tho you just gotta figure it out in the moment
