why don’t people form small groups (3-5) around an interest, create a channel, and cast/reply to each other? 

it could:
1. amplify reach (shared audiences)  
2. create richer, more dynamic discussions (shared effort)
3. build deeper connections  

maybe it feels like extra work or it’s hard to find each other?

Would have been way easier without channel changes. Now you just lose the vibe when you see you can’t cast in a channel particular to your interest. Dan said it doesn’t impact casting in/out a channel for reach but it’s not about that

Very much, I pretty much have so many nice engineering designs I’m working on from my internship some days ago I wanted to start casting in /engineering but I couldn’t. I’ve tagged July multiple times since he’s the owner but don’t want to be like spam so I stopped

Have you tried DCing? I sent him a DC about back when the channeks first changed. He's a very nice person. You can also start your own engineering niche channel.
