What is AlfaFrens?

AlfaFrens is like Patreon on the blockchain, with the added option to stake creators in order to share in their subscription revenue.

To start, AlfaFrens recommends you start with a deposit of 2,000 DEGEN.

If you don’t have that, you might not want to try AlfaFrens yet. You could probably start with 1,000, but you need to be careful you don’t burn through that and hit the dreaded $DEGEN 0. More on that below.

The most important thing to understand is how @superfluid, the technology that powers AlfaFrens, works.

It is real-time crypto steaming. You do not pay or get paid monthly for anything. All of your incoming and outgoing DEGEN is continuously pro-rated by the fractional second. Watch your balance.

Superfluid is the money streaming protocol. Start earning SUP every second.

(1) Your channel. You get 30% of subscription revenue. 70% to your stakers.

(2) Channels you subscribe to. These cost you DEGEN. 3 price points: 500 or 1,000 or 1,500. Subscribed channels earn you $alfa, which you use for staking.

(3) Cashback from channels you stake. This is $DEGEN you earn.

(1) YOUR CHANNEL

Make a channel. Pick subscription fee: 500 or 1,000 or 1,500 DEGEN a month. I say 500 to make it most affordable, but choose what you want.

Understand that you are only guaranteed 25% of your subscription revenue. 5% goes to the platform. Remaining 70% gets divided among your stakers.

(2) SUBSCRIBING

Subscribe to channels and get paid every second in $alfa, which you use to stake channels to earn $DEGEN.

Note: Once you’re earning $alfa, you’ll see “Daily amount” on your Home screen. This is the amount of $alfa you are projected to earn over the next 24 hours.

(3) STAKING

You can claim $alfa anytime to immediately stake. But mind the gas fees! Gas fees will chew through your balance quicker than anything.

Note: You do not have to subscribe to a channel in order to stake it.

I typically stake twice a day.

Staking $alfa on a channel earns you $DEGEN.

IMPORTANT: You must claim your $alfa at least once every 24 hours or you will be limited to claiming your only “Daily amount.” Set a reminder if you need to. Don’t miss out on $alfa!

You shouldn’t unstake too often because you will be put in 24 hour timeout where you can not claim or stake.

Pro Tip: Always claim and stake available $alfa before you unstake!

Don’t be afraid to unstake if your cashback has dropped for one or more channels. Your $alfa should be working for you!

Conventional wisdom is that your best first subscription and stake is @wake (#1 on the Top Income leaderboard; 1,500/month subscription + tons of stakers gets you consistent $alfa).

Nothing is static on AlfaFrens. Everything changes all the time.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER: You are NOT locking in returns.

Your returns will change from moment to moment. The system is always in flux.

If you have trouble tolerating uncertainty, AlfaFrens might not be for you.

I also coined 3 special terms for the @superfluid @alfafrens world. The first 2 are:

$DEGEN UP & $DEGEN DOWN

Your net flow is your current revenue (detailed above).

You are $DEGEN DOWN if your balance counter is decreasing. You don’t want this.

When it’s positive, you are $DEGEN UP. This is good.

BEWARE $DEGEN ZERO!!!

$DEGEN 0 is an interesting phenomenon where if your @superfluid balance on @alfafrens hits zero (assuming you have at least one subscription and one stake) some of your subscriptions are cancelled and your $alfa stops flowing.

But then what happens?

Think about it.

AFTER $DEGEN ZERO

Your $DEGEN immediately starts growing from zero because of whatever $alfa you have staked.

Assuming you want to resume the subscriptions, you gotta deposit more $DEGEN because you’re gonna have to pay subscription-grade gas and that ain’t cheap if you have lots of renewals to do.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT $DEGEN ZERO

At some point, people realized that they could exploit $DEGEN ZERO as a way to cancel subscriptions without paying gas.

AlfaFrens has since modified the $DEGEN ZERO event so it only cancels some subscriptions.
