i think the main reason apps keep giving out points instead of tokens is… actually, i don’t get it. why, in an ecosystem where everything and everyone has a token?

my observations : launching a token has become the new ‘distribution/gtm’ to get attention to your product and make people use. post that it completely depends on the merit of the product to retain them. points have become a proxy for token launch till companies clear regulatory hassles to drop a token. we’re in token is the product as the meta. - some launch token first and retain attention by building. - some launch a product and gain more traction by dropping a token.

there’s a legal angle, but more importantly, the tokens simply go to near zero within a week leaving a distaste in users mouths & hurting brand equity especially if the tokens do absolutely nothing, in which case they don’t rebound, especially not in this market environment
