For me its just a simple signal - I have strong conviction in degen. I hold it, I build with it, I use it.

It’s a signal of “community,” to both insiders and outsiders alike. At best it commands attention and attention is everything in memecoins. At worst  it comes off as thirsty and bot-like when you sport too many.

It was also common practice in the 2021-2022 PFP mania. Best example is BAYC and 🍌
