Not just hard work.. You have to be PREPARED for that opportunity. You need to put all the things in place so when opportunity knocks, you can drop all your things and go 100% for it. Most people don't recognise the opportunity because of all the other life decisions and luxuries they believe they should have. Opportunities mean you need to make choices.
