half-baked* hot take: wei's status-as-a-service is a boomer theory that is becoming increasingly outdated *not high, just writing stream of consciousness yes, status-seeking behavior will always play a role in social media but it should not be the foundation upon which we build the future. as we grasp social media's psychological impact (a la haidt re: mental health issues, addictions, misinformation, etc), user behaviors and motivations will evolve against it. they already are. there's growing preference for intentional disconnection (opal, ~40% of users take digital detoxes), niche community platforms (substack, tyb), ephemeral content (bereal, stories), and private forms of sharing (locket, snapchat; dark social makes up 80% of outbound sharing). 88% of social users cite connecting with friends as their top motivation. what's the top reason for internet friendship? shared interests. and what matters far more than likes or followers in shared interest communities? quality and depth of content. wdyt?

It depends on the social media site I think each one is a very different demographic clawing its way to the top. This one(Warpcast) is entirely driven by tipping coins now. It’s really tough to address this issue without recognizing that one thing has shifted everything on farcaster. Nothing seems real even when the intentional is good on here.

what makes you say it is entirely driven by tipping coins? i do not think about tipping coins whatsoever in terms of my behavior here. what motivates you to use and cast here? what other platforms are you using for entertainment, information, or connection and why?

I came to FC to learn base and learn from all the really smart people on here. lately, I have stopped reading comments because it seems its just ai drivel or people seeking moxie replies. The replies here used to be some of the most amazing interactions on here. I only use IG for my dogs account and X for news but its kind of getting extreme over there the last few weeks. I feel like my past life it was a huge priority to drive follower numbers. I erased a Facebook account with over 250k followers years ago and did a full reset, then stopped using that platform 4+ years ago. When you say you don't think about tipping coins do you think replies you have received are better or worse than they were 40-60 days ago? Do you ever ask yourself is this a genuine reply or someone seeking some kind of moxie reward?
