Post series: I'd like to explore and discuss use cases of blockchain tech that are not directly related to crypto. Today: Environmental conservation A transparent ledger can help with the transparency of sustainability efforts - I'll provide examples in the comments. Feel free to share your thoughts!

1. Carbon Credits Tracking: Companies and individuals can use blockchain to record the creation, transfer, and retirement of carbon credits in a transparent and immutable ledger. This ensures that carbon offsets are accounted for and can't be double-spent, helping to mitigate climate change.

Blockchains could be useful for secondary credit tracking and for tracking signatures and documents. But neither of those problems are all that pressing right now. Maybe in 5 years. What would be valuable today is tracking and verifying real world data/sensors. (We were discussing this on AirMiners). Thoughts?

What are secondary crefits? Traded carbon credits? Overall the most valuable and a very achievable use case. Have to check out airminers! 160 $DEGEN

yes, trading. I've probably seen a dozen proposals for startups doing this. None of them get very far because it's just not needed right now. We need better sensors/inputs, not tracking or trading.

People often show up at AirMiners with blockchain excitement. Then they propose some new secondary trading tool. Everyone groans because we don't need that. Part of why I'm here on farcaster is to let this community know what we do need. Data/inputs ie Can you help verify a biochar system really removed carbon?
