The Optimism network is a layer 2 chain. In other words, the OP network is located above the Ethereum main network, i.e. layer 1. Transactions are executed on the Optimism network, but transaction data is transferred to the main network, Ethereum, to be validated. In this way, the traffic of the main network will be reduced and at the same time, the security of the network will still be maintained.
