many talking about hotline staff that „just can‘t do this one thing for you“ because of some opaque company policy

Well in my hospitality experience, the rudeness is rarely warranted and usually enhanced by alcohol. And sometimes with a side of sexual harassment lol (I was a bartender in Key West years ago). 

BUT if you’re talking big corp customer service then yes, it sucks. Please do better y’all.
