Interesting thread on UK vs France from the other app. I am curious, do locals of either country agree? https://x.com/bswud/status/1804899087197564950

Being French and just coming back from the UK, I will not say this is entirely false but I will also state that what is always shocking me in the UK is the โ€œbig brother is watching youโ€ constantly, everywhere, and all the posters to incentivise people to report on other people: โ€œSee it, say it, sorted. โ€œ

It all started with the IRA bombings on the mainland in the 80s & 90s and has got worse ever since.

I beg to differ. Coming from a city renowned as โ€œthe safest city in the worldโ€ (now decayed and become a police state under CCP), I feel that the law enforcement in UK is not strong, especially for non-violent crimes like burglary. Offenders are likely to face minimal penalties even if caught. The โ€œBig Brotherโ€ systems and encouragement to report crime, is an unfortunate necessity and better than having no measures in place.

This is due to a history of terrorism. We had Irish terrorist blowing up London for decades and then Islamic terrorism, same as Paris. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-43878479 One thing that is cultural is that people will quite often step in and tackle terrorists, sometimes losing their lives in the process.
