Yeah. I was somewhat surprised at some of the responses Iโ€™ve seen. But given the source, I would need more rigor & transparency. Sound hypothesis! I wish it was Claude.

Nope. I definitely would not trust the data provenance, training or guardrails of this LLM.

No. And I'm also not a capitalist. Both are 20th century ideologies. (And they are words that have been stretched and abused to the point of meaninglessness: remember, in the 1990s, Microsoft called Linux "communist": https://www.theregister.com/2000/07/31/ms_ballmer_linux_is_communism/ ) I support freedom, global equality of opportunity, kindness and cooperation, human welfare and progress. These are timeless principles. The question is how to use the tools we have available to achieve these values in the context of the 21st century. I've written at length about the kinds of mechanisms I personally support, but I definitely do not think that I am the only source of good ideas, I think figuring out the best approach is a shared project of both thinking and also increasingly real world experimentation.

This administration is a disgrace and is making the USA a pariah on the world scene. Domestically I have never seen the country so divided. There is an active movement in California to secede from the country. Google searches for ways to move to Canada and elsewhere are at an all time high. An unelected billionaire is violating privacy, taking over popular programs like social security and Medicare, and violating the constitution. The courts are having to stop executive orders. All this while claiming that a narrow victory made possible by suppressing the vote of black people in swing states is a mandate to do whatever they want.

The risk of politician coins comes from the fact that they are such a perfect bribery vehicle. If a politician issues a coin, you do not even need to send *them* any coins to give them money. Instead, you just buy and hold the coin, and this increases the value of their holdings passively. Furthermore, there is deniability: holding the coin is, in financial effect, a linear combination of donating to the issuer and gambling. Hence you can intend to do the former but when challenged claim that you are doing the latter. You can even hold the coin privately, and show that you are holding it to whoever; you do not need any zero knowledge proofs, you just send a test transaction. This is all risky to democracy, for reasons similar to what I wrote in https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2021/08/16/voting3.html and elsewhere. TLDR: the economic arguments for why markets are so great for "regular" goods and services do not extend to "markets for political influence". I recommend politicians do not go down this path.

When you watch Musk openly perform Nazi salutes, support Nazi-adjacent political movements, spread Nazi conspiracy theories, and provide a platform for Nazi rhetoric, it's time to state the obvious: this man is a Nazi. https://www.theindex.media/this-man-is-a-nazi/

the prediction market platform Polymarket for the controversy surrounding users speculating on the California wildfires. Against the backdrop of wildfires that have already caused multiple deaths and forced tens of thousands to evacuate, users apathetically bet on the development of the disaster, with some prediction pools reaching up to $100,000. This behavior of "gambling" on a public disaster has sparked intense moral questioning.
