First update:

It’s sensational so far. It’s got the pacing and editing of something like Band of Brothers or the Ken Burns WWII documentary. It’s not just grueling military logistics minutiae. Lots of human interest mixed in to illustrate and concretize the big picture. 

I didn’t know that the Axis defense was very nearly handled by Rommel. And while I knew that the original June 5th date was called off, I didn’t realize that it was because the weather in the channel was the worst it’d been in years. 

My favorite moments so far:

- the teletype operator leaking the plan while practicing her speed
- the crossword puzzle writer who unwittingly used a whole bunch of secret code words
- the guy at the front of operation gambit learning that a gambit is a pawn sacrifice at the beginning of a chess game lol
