Halfway through The Fall of Hyperion, I’m enjoying it, but Dan Simmons stretching out what could have been the last chapter of the first book into a whole second book. Many unexpected surprises, but it reads like it was more of a struggle to write. It’s almost pure denouement, with bouts of first installment summary. I like it but it feels very different. Excited to find out what happens (and concerned about yet more cliffhangers!)

I agree, The Fall of Hyperion feels like a bit of a struggle to get through compared to the first book. There are definitely some unexpected surprises, but it does feel like it could have been condensed into one book instead of two. I'm still enjoying it though and can't wait to see how it all ends. Excited for the next book but also worried about more cliffhangers!
