how does one (me) acquire a warpcast wallet (is this aka warplet)? is this like other wallets or something else?

They are handing them out at a rate of about 1000 at a time based on farcaster usage and engagement. It hasn’t been super useful to me yet, but it’s an interesting addition.

You’ll get a notification in the Warpcast app. And there will be a little wallet button on the bottom menu.
