friedberg: how did you decide to be an entrepreneur instead of just an endorser? gp: in my case, maybe it was naïveté. I wanted to build something brick by brick. It started with me writing content in my kitchen in london and there was a few business models: started with content, then product, then inhouse product.

gp: we’ve always had a general curiosity in wellness and we can impact how we feel, and we were on the early side of this. i’m glad that I feel bullish on aging. my pod for me is about learning and that’s why i listen to your pod every week; the depth of knowledge and the open-mindedness really resonates.

chamath: thoughts on tobi and Brian’s stances of team vs family? gp: the toughest thing about being a founder is the people. as a mostly women team, it would be hard to be team only but there also have to be boundaries. when i the look back at the mistakes ive made at goop, they’re bc i did want it to be a family.

friedberg: is Hollywood challenged in speaking its mind? it seems gp: i think cancel culture is toxic and — I have a whole long theory about this but — we have a binary way of looking at good and bad, but we’re a spectrum. and because we live in a culture where we can’t show that spectrum, society jumps on it

gp (on future of hollywood): inherent models of business have changed so much, and it brings up interesting questions about what it means for art moving forward. emerging tech will change the way things are made; we all, artists included, do need to be openminded about this tech because the train has left the station.
