Anything goes. I am to afraid to say, but sometimes I stumble on discourse recorded sometime in the 40s or 60s and people can have amazingly thoughtful conversations and there's no such thing that I see now.

It’s definitely a declining skill as newer generations are more accustomed to internet slang. I myself have been watching a lot of debates such as Firing Line to improve my speaking abilities.
