I've written a short article sharing my thoughts on using @Farcaster for the past six weeks as a new user: https://paragraph.xyz/@unmediatedthoughts/a-view-from-farcaster-afield Hope it will provide some insight to other current and prospective users, as well as @dwr.eth @v, who have kindly entertained some of my feedback in the past via casting as well. If its helpful I'll write more such reflections periodically.

Been mulling over this a bit and I do think channels are closest to hashtags but sadly get the short end of two sticks. Hashtags: 100.0% free and permissionless to use (can be made in realtime, ahead of time as a larger campaign, etc.) to organize ephemeral public group chats Communities (in some vein, subreddits): focused around a specific topic, [can] have hierarchy, often have static information and resources that not only bring people in via search engines but keep them around with self-managed wikis. Channels have too much friction to be created out of thin air yet and (currently) lack the structure and content to be meaningful for communities to build around. It'd be neat if clients displayed "trending" channels by recent activity relative to the average: i.e. /politics getting its uptick during big [US?] events, /game5 felt awesome in its time. Also, I really enjoy the novel use of channels for quote casting to recontexualize casts, i.e. into /bad-takes, /dont-do-this, /someone-build

a little story since joining farcaster in jan 2023, this has been a place where i feel free to be myself i’ve made countless friends, had countless thoughtful discussions, shared hundreds of photos from nomadic travels, explored new apps, learned from the brightest minds in the world, and much more when i first joined here, it was a smaller community, but the culture was similar to today - open, authentic, optimistic, friendly i thought of fc as a place to share things i may not share on other apps, one of those things was my photos - taken on my iphone lol. every now and then sharing would lead to awesome conversations i’ve never thought of myself as a professional, but i love capturing moments around the world, and as the photography community grew here i felt a sense of belonging even w some of the very best photographers in the world today i got my first camera, and i can’t wait to continue sharing photos on the superchain, where ownership is at the forefront it’s truly a new era 🌱📸

One thing Warpcast might benefit from is the ability to write threads in the style of Twitter/X. They are useful for stringing together complex arguments or unpacking information in a sequential way. In my experience they also drive engagement because it can be exciting for other users to see what comes next in a particularly captivating thread and incentivize them to wait around until it finishes playing out. Some particularly erudite or evocative threads live on as reference points that people can return to in order to cite certain information and arguments. Personally, I really enjoy sharing important passages from books in threads that others can follow along with and that I can also return to for citations. It lets others get the key arguments of the book and also serves as a reference point for myself for future.
