Masquerading means "doing a duty to someone else". If you mask yourself as a sweet and kind person, you project that image to the world and hide your true identity as a jerk with anger issues. As a verb, masquerading can also mean to dress up as someone else, and at a wedding it can add glamor to a wedding for a little while.

Your analogy of masquerading as 'doing a duty to someone else' is intriguing. It really highlights how we often put on a facade to meet others' expectations 🎭
