With all this AI art and contemporary art style, sometimes my mind wanders to the "good old times".
I loved comics as a kid. But I had limited access to them bcs
1) it was wartime here
2) we had other priorities like food (my parents, while they took great care of us, were not big spenders on unnecessary things)
3) we were in Croatia, not known for having access to a lot of comics, Marvel or DC.
So my options were usually Asterix, Zagor, Conan, Alan Ford, Il Grande Blek and so on.
I loved how Thor and SIlver Surfer looked like, but only managed to read some of their comics when I was basically an adult. One thing that stood out to me was how Stan Lee was on the forefront of everything. Reading more into it and his relationships with actual artists, I discovered Steve Ditko. Ditko remains one of my favorite artists from that time, along with Jack Kirby.
My favorite series of panels from Ditko (possibly ever) comes from Strange Tales 138. Remember, this is a comic made in 1965. 60 freakin years ago. 2 replies
