International Women’s Day is not really celebrated in the US because of its association with socialist parties and the Soviet Union. I first learned how big a deal it is in the rest of the world when my gf got freeleech for the day on a Russian torrent tracker.

as a person growing up in a post soviet country where it was celebrated on a national level (spoiler: Belarus) and my parents having exact same association as you/US, I was really surprised to find out that people kinda-celebrate it internationally
